As a Christian athletic wear and sports apparel company, empowering people to reach self-improvement through their faith is what we do best. And oftentimes, learning to believe in yourself is the first step toward turning your dreams into reality. So if you find yourself doubting your abilities -- in fitness, in business, in academics, or in faith -- remember these five simple techniques for building self-confidence.
1. Focus on the Future
If you allow your past struggles to define the present, you will never achieve the future you dream of. Instead, try envisioning the positive things you’d like to accomplish, and set concrete goals that can help you get there.
2. Be Conscientious of Your Thoughts
Falling into a pattern of negative thinking can be dangerously easy to do -- and once you have been in this pattern for a while, it becomes difficult to even notice. You might, for example, begin to doubt yourself automatically, or blame those around you for the normal inconveniences of life. Instead, remember the words of Proverbs 4:23, “watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flows the springs of life.” If you notice illogical and negative thought patterns, then changing those bad habits will become far easier.
3. Act Positive
Have you ever heard the old phrase, “fake it until you make it?” Sharing your emotions and being sincere with those close to you is certainly important -- but in some situations, simply acting confident and positive will help you to feel that way. Studies have shown, for example, that smiling can cause you to feel happier; and facial expressions in general can influence your mood.
4. Get Some Exercise
Sure, hitting the gym or going on a long run can make you feel tired in the short term -- but in the long term, an active lifestyle will help you to feel great; an attitude you are sure to express in more ways than one! Exercise is also a great way of proving to yourself what you can accomplish with a bit of determination and lot of help from the Lord. Which brings us to our final point...
5. Live Your Faith
Everyone doubts themselves from time to time -- and in these moments, knowing that there is a greater power to lean on is so important. This is precisely what Paul the Apostle was speaking of when he wrote the words, “for when I am weak; then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:9.) Allowing your faith to be a true guiding force in your life while empower you to persevere, and become the person that God created you to be!
