What Should You Wear For A 5k?

What Should You Wear For A 5k? 

Running a 5k can be daunting. You have to do a lot to prepare for it, both physically and mentally. Let us help make it a little easier for you by offering some advice on what you should wear for your race.

Dress for the Weather

There are a number of factors to consider when trying to decide what to wear for your run. Weather is one of the most important. If you are racing in the middle of summer, with temperatures close to 100 degrees Farenheit, you should plan on wearing lightweight clothing. Consider wearing a comfortable Exalt tank top or muscle tank. Spring and fall tend to be the cooler seasons. If you are running then, you might be more comfortable in longer sleeves or athletic pants, like joggers. If you ever run in the cold winter months, be sure to wear layers.

No matter what the weather is like, always bring extra clothes. It is a good idea to bring a windproof jacket and running leggings, just in case. If the weather is as warm as you expected it to be, then you don’t need to wear your extra clothing. But if it turns out to be chillier than you had planned, you will appreciate the additional layers you brought.

Give Your Body the Support It Needs

It is important to have the correct support while you are running as well. Girls need to have a supportive sports bra, and guys should wear supportive compression shorts. You should not wear just any shoes, either. Invest in proper running shoes with enough arch support for your feet.

Hope (and Prepare) for a Bright Sun

You also need to protect your skin from the sun on race day. Remember to put on sunscreen before you run, whether it is sunny or cloudy out. Clouds only block out about 10-20% of UV rays, so you will still be affected by the sun’s rays on a cloudy day.

Make Yourself Comfortable

Consider running with some extra gear as well. If you like to listen to music while you run, wear an armband and put the source of your music in it. If you like to monitor your own race time, wear a watch. If the sun shining in your eyes is a problem for you, you might want to invest in a pair of performance sunglasses. A headband can be beneficial as well, especially if you sweat a lot. In the warmer months, it will keep the sweat from getting into your eyes, and in the cooler months, it can keep your ears warm.

There is a lot to think about when choosing an outfit for your 5k race, but the most important thing to remember is to be comfortable. You won’t perform well if you aren’t. Wear clothing that fits both the weather and your style, and you will enjoy the race much more!
